We saw this product that you can put in your kitchen. It turns leftover food into food for chickens. But I wanted to know the opinion of the group here. I would use it with their layering feed and not as a primary food source.

The website claims... "Mill is the easiest, cleanest way to turn food scraps into shelf-stable food for 🐓. Save money. Save resources. Save time. And make your chickens happy."

Has anyone used something similar to this product or even this product with their chickens?

Thanks in advance!!

I haven’t used it but it seems like it makes compost. Why would you feed chickens compost?Am I misunderstanding this? Also here’s something I found on their website.

What a scam of a claim for a product that cost more than $800! They suggest that you feed the "dried grounds" from your left overs (not compost) at a rate of 5% total daily intake.. in my opinion.. you'd be better off and save $ by feeding leftover directly to your birds.. but here's the link with how they're suggesting you use it..

It would be a hard PASS for myself.

Still, fun (and funny) to see the products being marketed to my fellow poultry keepers!

I don't know if you have decided to purchase The Mill yet as i am just seeing this post. If you are still on the fence, I HIGHLY recommend The Mill. This has become my primary feed. My chickens eat 100% healthier food and they are loving it!!! I am I love with it as you can set it to run thru the app or just press to mill anytime you "clean out the fridge"!!! It also keeps you updated on the pounds of food you have saved out of the landfill! Best decision I ever made for my chickens.

How is it more useful than just throwing your scraps to the birds and not spending that much money?

I was sold on Mill when I realized it does small fish and chicken BONES which add so much protein and vitamins to my feed and so much more. Also, I can throw fruit peels that my chickens won't eat in it and it creates a beautiful feed mix. Egg shells my chickens won't eat when i toss in the pen but from the Mill they gobble the calcium down. Just scraping plates at dinner we didn't save each piece for the chickens because it smelled and was a Hassel. No smells from the Mill at all and it is SUPER quiet. You can lock the Mill if you have children or leave it open like I do and constantly add it even when milling. Once the bin is filled it actually smells good. No stink. If I toss scrapes in the pin, they don't eat half of it and it rots until I throw away leaving behind smells and a mess I longer have to worry about. I am in love with the Mill. I made payments on the Mill in case I changed my mind because they have a satisfaction guarantee so trying it is worry free. This is organic living feed for your chickens. It isn't compost because it hasn't had bacteria introduced. But add8ng it to our compost has Jumpstart the compost and our soil is so black and rich in nutrients. It's just a win win overall for our household. Plus....saving lbs of food out of lanfilled each week is what really matters most too.
