Around two or three years ago we bought two mini-classic turkeys with plans to eat them for Thanksgiving. Unfortunately that did not work out, and we ended up keeping them. Around a year ago one of the turkeys died from sour crop due to eating orchard grass, but we still have the second.
Several weeks ago she began getting more lethargic — as in she spent most of her time laying in one of the chicken's nesting boxes and would only sometimes come out of the coop. Now, she spends generally all day and all night laying there, and the only time that I have seen her standing recently was when I picked her up up to see if there were eggs around her. She stood there for a second before stepping back into the box and lying down.
I had not thought much of her behavior until I was talking to somebody who told me about two white turkeys she had bought which were not broad breasted meat birds. She said that pretty soon one of them did what mine is currently doing and died but that it was sometime later when the second started having the same problems, and her son disposed of it. Since they were not broad breasted meat turkeys, I did not think that they would have those problems. Is this likely the case, meaning we should cull her?
