Mini / minature silkie?

I received a reply already from one seller i bought from and she said the egg isn't from her but that

"Silkies are the only chicken breed to come in 3 sizes"
Large fowl
Bantam
Miniature Bantam"

Hope thats helpful to any newbies like me.

Im unsure who sold it to me as i ordered around 25 eggs. I emailed all sellers to try to track down who sold it, another replied saying -

"there is no such thing as mini silkies, true silkies bantams are very small and then there is the large fowl silkies, the ones people call bantams are just a mix of the 2 together, people call the true bantam silkies mini to help sell them, thanks"

Both your silkies are so cute :love
Here (I'm in Germany) we have standard sized silkies and bantam silkies (both European standard) and since some time (not sooo long) US silkies (US standard/not European standard). I'm currently incubating bantam silkies (European standard). 2 eggs are definitly smaller than the others. But I don't know if that means the chicks would be smaller than the others when grown up.

There are 2 'types' of silkie.

LF silkies, which are on the small side for LFs, sometimes get called silkie bantams mistakenly. These are the original silkie breed.

Bantam silkies. Smaller variations of the LFs. It's quite possible that people call them 'mini' to sell them.

But that seller who said that silkies come in three sizes is telling nonsense or mistaken . :)

'Miniature bantams' don't exist. There are true bantams, which have no LF equivalent, and there are adapted bantams, smaller versions of LF.

Some people call tiny true bantams like Serama miniature, but they are not officially so.

Silkies certainly don't come in three sizes! Quite funny really.

Officially in England and maybe other countries they have two sizes of silkies. Here in the states we have a one.
Unofficially people can claim anything they want. I've never heard of mini silkies but I'm sure someone somewhere is using the term for marketing.
It reminds me of "giant" cochin. There is no such thing. What people are calling giants are actually what standard LF cochin should be. The hatcheries have been putting out smaller and smaller LF cochin for decades. Now when some see a proper one they think they're giant and its now become a market term.
I'm sure silkies have went the route since hatchery silkies aren't uniform in size and are almost always bigger then a bred to standard silkie is.
Also there's been a trend to breed some bigger to market as a meat bird.
