Mink Stole

Be careful, mink have a scent gland similar to but not as pungent as a skunk's scent gland. You still don't want to get in on yourself. This gland does make a good attractant for mink because mink are highly territorial and they will readily fight other mink to the death to protect their home range so it pulls mink in like gravity.
Good to know

Just had my own run in with a mink the thing was living in my chicken coop under a pallet and just kept coming out at night and killing and eating right there in the chicken run was so mad at myself for not checking under the pallet for in...but I had no Idea what I was even dealing with til today. Now I know it's a mink.

As a follow up. The mink who killed the 17 young chickens returned to the coop. It was humainly captured in a live trap and “relocated” with the assistance of a well placed .22 pellet to the brain.
I guess somebody is going to be missing a strip of fur on their fur coat.

um hate to break it to you but that's a pine marten. mink are all black with a white spot on there chin.

but awesome catch, if you have a trappers licence and if there legal to catch (as i know they can be protected in places) they bring in like 50-100 dollars.

Well whatever it is it is dead that is certain. The mink in these parts are brown. My property is on about 2800 feet of riverfront. Lots of aquatic animals like beaver. They say mink range far so I figured it’s a mink. A licensed trapper who I only met once sets traps on crown land the other side of the river all winter. He takes mink, beaver even raccoons. We are in a very remote area, 3 km from my nearest permanent neighbor. Could be a Martin. It does have beautiful fur and I didn’t really enjoy killing it but the trap was inside the coop with the door closed. The varmint was trespassing.

Well then Small Farm you are probably right. But the critter will bite the neck and drain the blood of chickens no more. That’s all I care about.
