Missing Pekin after storm

I have two Pekin girls that are about 4months old. We had a big storm last night, one of many this year, and today I only have one girl.

We live on a golf course with a pond and even though we built a beautiful coop- they free range. Never come in at night. Party all day with their mallard duck friends.

But today- only one of my girls is hanging with their friends. I called her in to eat and she was barking pretty good at me to let me know she was alone.

I’m heartbroken and can’t find a trace of her. Any ideas???

So sorry to hear about your duck. Has she come back yet? Have you gone around your area calling and looking for her?

As a side note, does your coop include a run? If not, I strongly encourage you to build one. In such cases of bad weather, predator threats, or if you need to travel, it's nice knowing that you duckies are locked up and safe.

Unfortunately domestic ducks shouldn't be allowed to free-range on a pond like that. They have so many predators and they're not built to live the wild life. Pekins especially have no ability to fly away like wild ducks. Try to capture the lone duck and find a domestic friend for it, build a run large enough for them to be comfortable and add a little swimming pool. Give them time on grass for forage, but don't release them into the wild!
