Hello everyone! I am in need of some help! I have an almost 3 year old Pekin Duck who has developed a hot to the touch hock on one of her legs last month (Dec 16) and it’s still ongoing today! She was doing very well until one early morning, I found her struggling to barley walk. Since then, I’ve been bringing her inside for water therapy sessions and feed her myself enough that she is able to move around by herself now, but albeit, very very limited. She will stand up for a few seconds while holding her leg up and plop right back down. She also uses her wings for balance. It worries me that she puts her entire body weight on one leg and she’ll wind up injuring her functioning leg! She also cannot preen her stomach area at all which gets very dirty fast when she’s outside with her flock. I’ve separated her with a thick layer of bedding so she doesn’t feel alone! I was hoping to see if anyone knows what could be the issue going on? Her swollen hock continues to feel very warm and it feels like theirs fluid forming inside of it too, but I can’t be too sure. I’d take her to the vet, but I sadly can’t afford :(

Two things come to mind (well, more than two but these are the main ones).

Bumblefoot or Niacin Deficiency.

Can you get pictures of her underfoot please?

And what are you feeding her? Including treats and supplements.

No bumblefoot. She has calluses, but no cuts on her feet anywhere. I feed her the Nutrena Duck only feed (as well as the rest of the flock), combined with a bowl of peas in fresh water for the extra niacin! Leafy greens such as lettuce and cracked corn as additional snacks are provided as well!

I also provide the feed wirh Brewster’s Yeast for added Niacin and the Rooster Booster electrolytes for her water!
