This hen has had feather loss so I treated all nine with Elector PSP then noticed more where having the same feather loss where tail meets back. Treated all birds and coop cracks nests etc again with PSP and also Dusted them, roosts, floor and run. I use sand. I have one Jersey Giant that has lost a lot of weight and seems lethargic. Alienates herself from others, sleeps standing on floor day and night. Pale comb and same feather loss near tail/back. Can this symptom be from Mites? I did give her Vitamin B 12 Rooster Booster today. Not eating much. Do I need to worm them or will giving a pumpkin weekly do the trick? Not sure which way to go at this point. Wait and see?

Welcome to BYC. Have you had chickens very long? Have you observed any mites moving about on your chickens’ skin? Could your chickens be molting? How old are they? Feather loss can be due to molting or feather picking, but you may also see feather loss from hens being mated too much by the rooster. Pale combs are also common during a molt when hens are not laying eggs. If they have mites, some mites can remain on them 24 hours a day, while the common Pouktry mite may be on them at night in the dark, but hide in the coop during the day. If you have any pictures of the feather loss and chickens that would be helpful. Here is some reading about lice and mites:

Thanks! The hens are all 7-8 months old. I’ve had them all since hatched.
I don’t see any mites on them day or night.
No Roos here. This Lav Am. Was the first to get this 2 weeks ago or more. This photo is today. The other 4-5 out of nine don’t have the feather loss as bad. One Wyandotte has loss around her head and breast.
