Hi! This is very important and I’m sorry it’s so gruesome!
Today I found out that 4 of my chickens have mites. (They have their own coop because they are show birds).
INFO:
-I’m not sure how long they have had them because I failed to check them over winter break because I was in Maine and at my dad’s house.
-There are thousands of sand size bugs feeding around their butt. I belive they are mites. There are large patches of scabs on their stomach and around their vent.
WHAT I DID:
-cleaned all birds (I used soap and washed all of the scabs (they pretty much just flaked off in water) and poop off them.)
-deep cleaned coop (and the coop attached)
-sprayed coop with mite killer(and the coop attached)
-sprayed all chickens with mite killer
-cleaned all food and water holders and replaced them
NOTE: I don’t remember what the mite killer was but it came in a small green bottle and was $160
MY QUESTIONS:
-what can I do now?
-what are the scabs from?
-will this affect the birds for life?
-can I still eat their eggs?
ALSO: I’m not looking for criticism about not checking my chickens vents. I check them once every 2 weeks, and I check their behavior and head/feathers daily. I will do it more regularly though!

This is after I wet their vent area so you could see it better!
