The chicks are fine. They're eating, drinking, staying warm, sleeping. As they should.

I'll hold off on giving them names for the time being. I'd like to stretch that out to when I know who's a pullet and who's a cockerel, but that might not be possible. I'm already calling one of the Sussex Clever Clogs because it found the water before the others.

I'm sorry for her too but sometimes things just don't work out like we hope. Everyone did their best and all possibilities were explored.

She was doing very well with her friends in the run when I left for work. I'll give her a few weeks to gain condition and shake herself back to normal, then I'll make her appointment for the implant.

The chicks were also doing great when I left for work. Nicknames are emerging. Clever Clogs has been joined by Toothy and The Vulture.

I'm relieved to know she's recuperating.

The chicks may yet end up at my friend's kids' school - we'll see how that turns out. It seems unlikely.

One of the Sussex has a rather protruding crop that gives it a vulture-like appearance. If it is indeed the crop.
