MJ's little flock

I'm taking a break from a befuddling flat pack.

I'm glad I made it to step 5 because the first 4 steps were not to be sneezed at, but ... That's a weird hinge. And it seems they skipped the hinge step in the instructions.

Cuppa tea time.
Ugh! Flatpacks have been the bane of my life recently. It took me 3 days to put my bed together. Not only were the instructions too small to read properly, nothing was labelled. I put together & took apart again soo many times. You have my utmost sympathy. :hugs

just out of curiosity, and feel free to ignore, but why those breeds? I'm put off Brahmas by their sheer size, and their feathered legs.

Also, a propos RC's question, in my experience (and apparently in that of La Fleche, and I recall some old poultry manuals suggesting the same), typically you'll get more males with an early brood, and more females with a later. Just saying.
Yes, I've heard that too. It's why I only wanted about 4 eggs to start. On the other hand broody season started early up here. Lots are on their 2nd or 3rd hatching already & I got my rooster because his owner had more chicks than she knew what to do with.

MJ: when are your chicks due to hatch? I am trying to do a sort of catch up & have only just found out you have a hen sitting on eggs as well. I have another fortnight to our 21 day point - though this is very much a hit or miss effort on my part as there is no guarantee the eggs are even fertile. Most of the eggs are booted bantams sired by a frizzle bantamX. If any hatch I should have some very pretty chickens.

I still haven't attached the lid to the ottoman. I've just about decided it needs two people to do it right first time.

I'm going to go and pick up her eggs on Tuesday. So she doesn't have any yet, but I'm doing what I can to give her a hatch before she goes on suprelorin and loses the option of motherhood forever. Not sure how it will turn out, but I'm doing what I can. The hatch would be around Nov 5, give or take.

I've been following your news and it's very exciting! The rooster seems like a lovely chap.

I am so happy with my rooster! I caught him mating with Ha'penny last night, so I have visions of frizzled Campines! 🤣 Ah, I should have looked @ the dates on your posts. I am so far behind on everyone's news I assumed you had begun.
