It is a popular dust bathing site in spring and fall. In summer the afternoon sun bakes it under the coop. You will find them under the coop in the mornings in the summer. Once the sun angles in its too hot under there. Afternoon dust baths are in the big run or under the magnolia tree in the summer.
It is thinner than the coop roof. It's not 3/4 inch. It's 1/2 inch. That's part of the problem but not the whole problem.
