Momma goat (6-month old kids) with HUGE, hot, engorged udder. Help!!!

I'll have to disagree if the udder is "hot" to the touch, it has the markings of mastitis. Please please don't delay in getting her milked our OR in getting needed medicines. If it's been going on a while , You may need both Today and Tomorrow as well as antiobiotics.

We lost one of our milk goats this season when her mastitis went to gangrene mastititis...

Swollen udders - maybe when weaning,,,,,but not heat - hot signals trouble!

check out dairygoatinfo on line. Thanks.

Sorry about bumping myself up, but I'm kind of sitting on pins and needles here, worrying about what to do when and if she fills up again...

I agree with milking her out, after that is done condition her udder with some Bag Balm 2 times a day, this will help the condition of the udder and prevent any futher discomfort.

Mastitis is very serious and needs to be delt with ASAP! No debate there. However, I am not sure that is what is happening here since she is trying to dry her off. We have also had a heat wave here in GA. From 29 to 72. So her once cool udder will definatley feel different.
My doe, in particular, always has a hot udder when she is full and ready to be milked. I have tested her many times for Mastits and it is always negative.
So.....will someone please explain how an udder is suppose to look when drying up? If it is at full capasity, then will it be warm/hot. What is the correct procedure for drying up a doe?

Please forgive me, Kate, for being worried, this is my first time having goats, and I'm just trying to do everything right, and not inadvertantly kill one of them...
There's a lot of conflicting information out there about goats. Even since I posted this yesterday, I've gotten opinions from people I really respect (who know a lot about goats), that are COMPLETELY opposite. I really don't think that she has Mastitis, as there is no fever, or even any change in behaviour. There are no lumps in her udder, and no discoloration. My main concern is how to relieve her pressure, without getting her milkflow all started up again.
