Hi Montanans!!

I have family in Shelby & our granddaughters just finished thier 1st year with chickens & 4H competition.

For next year, we are talking about incubating chicks themselves. I am in NC & have very different temps & humidities. Also different breeds aviable locally as far as hatching eggs.

I still have to find out when they need to hatch for competing at the fair, think thier current birds were hatched in March. I think they only did showmanship - as a lot of the birds were hybrids?

So - what type of incubators do you use & prefer (need tabletop & may need resale value as not sure if they will continue to hatch...)? Can purchase through a website or Amazon.

Which of you provide hatching eggs? Specific breeds? I know daughter, Skye, wants FBCM. If anyone has Zombie eggs, that would be great - as think the girls will love that... Once I know who has what, I'd be happy to PM for pricing for shipping or for pickup (in 2025). The Marias fair is in July.

I prefer natural brooding. But I also have had good results with the NatureRight360.

Mine are old sportsman incubators from the 80s, retrofitted with digital controls so I can more accurately adjust temps. I raise silver based marans, as in the black silver, blue silvers, splash and recessive white, with silver instead of copper genes. I also raise cream legbars. I actually have quite a few legbars available currently! There are a lot of turkeys, too. Heritage type. The marans like less humidity than some breeds, because the thick coating blocks some pores in the shell. I just fiddle until proper mass size is achieved in the egg.
