Just wanted to bring you a sunshine story in the midst of all the sh*t that’s going on out there. I hatch mix chickens with my super handsome Buff Orpington rooster as the father, they turn out fantastic and they lay the most beautiful almond colored eggs, so three weeks ago I hatched out 7 baby chicks in my incubator, but the same day I put them in there, Anne, my Buff Orpington hen, decided to lay on eggs as well. I can break all my other hens just by distracting them a few times, but I know I can’t break Anne so I let her sit and put 3 eggs under her. On the same day my 7 in the incubator hatched, Anne hatched out 1 baby chick. 6 of my 7 were spoken for, so I had decided to raise them in a pen in my barn and let Anne raise her chicks with the rest of the flock, so I gave her 1 of my 7 so her only chick would have a companion. Fast forward two weeks and I felt horrible for the lonley 6 so decided I’d give it a go and give them to Anne as well, keeping in mind they were 2 weeks old and she may not take to them at all. So I brought them in the coop, mid day, and the minute she heard them she came rushing over as if she’d forgotten something, and that was that. From that moment, she treated them as her own and it was amazing to see. I keep an extra heat roof right next to her nest in case they don’t all fit under her and it’s just worekd out great. What amazing birds they are! Here she is catnapping while some of the little ones do what they do best; eat.

I love my Orpingons they are the sweetest chickens. I am hoping one of mine is broody so she can hatch some eggs. It will be on accident of course, because I for sure don't need more chickens (so I will tell my husband). lol. Thank you for sharing!
