Mottled/Spangled Orpingtons

Here is an interesting twist on Spangled. I was told by a top notch geneticist that this pullet MAYBE not able to throw this look. For now I will use her with my Brown Red cockerel. But by summers end I will use her with a quality male. I really like her type for a 4 to 5 moonth ole. This is one of my BUSTOFF line specials. My friend Harry said this shows that BUSTOFF have the mottling gene in him and I should use my 2 Black Mottleds with him. Harry knows his shtuff!

Very cool Sandy. Great looking bird. I have such a diverse gene pool with my line which produced this pullet. And I gave the original male a year off last year from hatching from his hens. This year he has some very nice girls and we're hatching from them. I have Dun based girls in with him. And took him to them and have a neat looking Blueish chick. Hoping for a solid Dun. One lady I sold some eggs to last year hatched out a solid Dun pullet. So, it is time to hatch some more and hope I can get one.

I got that colour by crossing my gold lace orpington to a black and this is the result.

just click on the blue bit and the picture will pop up.

I know a few folks have acquired imported Mottled Orps too, where are y'all at? I would love to see some pictures!

By this fall I should hopefully have my own Mottled babies.

Hi Jeremy,

I hatched and hatched (and hatched and hatched) and ended up with around twenty mottled lavender pullets and six good cockerels. So, I've got my start. They should be at POL in a few weeks. I have some really nice blacks that I hope to cross them with. I don't have any pics right now, but the mottling is a little more apparent than I thought it would be....nothing like it looks on a darker color though. However, the snow white legs alone are nearly enough to make me favor them over regular lavenders.

My husband and I are looking for someone who lives close that has some large fowl buff orpington chickens for sale please let me know.
I'm in NE Indiana in the Lafayette area.

Anyone have any updates on their mottled projects? I had a couple mottled Lavenders pop up in some of my hatches, then I had a kind of mottled looking black (she appears solid now, but has light feet and a lighter colored face) pop up from a Black English roo over my Lavender girls. So, I am growing those up to breed and see what I get (they are currently 5 months old and huge!), but I would love to be able to add some genetic diversity in the future if others have projects going as well.

Can someone tell me what birds are crossed to get the mottled orpingtons? I love the look of them and want to try/start a project of breeding them but have not been able to find anything at all that says what crosses make that color. Any and all help and information is greatly appreciated. Also on the mottled lavenders.
