Mt. Healthy Hatchery EXTRA EXTRA!

Hi all,

This is my first time ordering chicks from an online hatchery. I will be receiving a batch of 5 chicks next week from Mt. Healthy and I’m very excited! I’m curious if people typically receive “extra” chicks in their orders from Mt. Healthy? I’ve read reviews on other hatcheries where extra chicks (specifically Roos) just magically get added to their order? Yikes! Has anyone experienced this with Mt. Healthy? Just curious!

Ive never ordered from a hatchery.
But yes most of the time even if you add a extra chick before you order they will send a extra. This could be a cockerel or a pullet.

I ordered 9 chicks from Mt. Healthy this year and received 10. Most of the chicks I ordered were either sex-link or autosexing (CCL x 3, Noir Marans x 2, Blue Rock x 1).

I don't know what breed the extra chick is - I believe it is an olive egger (I ordered 2 of those but as far as I can tell the extra is this breed. The other is a white leghorn and there's no mistaking that one, lol).

They are 5 weeks old, so I do not know if I was sent a rooster, but I do believe Mt. Healthy claims to only send breeds/sex that was ordered if they do send any extra.

I ordered from Mt. Healthy and got an extra pullet of the breed I ordered. (I ordered all pullets.) I was VERY pleased with my order and would order from them again.

My understanding is if you order all pullets the extra would also be from a sexed pullet bin of a same sized breed you ordered.

Do post pics when you get them please. We adore pics of all the new chickies.

I got my six (ordered 5) from them. They gave me an extra of the most expensive chick I ordered. Their policy on extra chicks is that it will be something that you ordered. I am not sure if giving an extra of the most expensive chick is always the case or if they just had more than they needed when I ordered though. I had a really great experience with them and all mine are doing great. Please share pictures when they arrive!

I've also ordered from Mt. Healthy, twice, and been happy with my order. I believe we received a couple of extra pullets, which they include as "insurance" against possible shipping losses.
