I made a HORRIBLE mistake ordering from a hatchery! (Graphic Photos)

Feed stores like TSC get chicks shipped in in huge quantities.
Yeah, meaning you remove the problem of dead chicks arriving at your home. Since you can pick up the healthy chicks that have already been shipped. The shipping of chicks isn't going to dissappear in America. It's way too convenient for that. So if you don't want to deal with possible dead chicks arriving find a way where you don't have to.

I can tell the rush to buy chicks is over. When they first started shipping into TSC, they were also making it to the local co-op. Both places were gone before I could make it there. Last night I stopped in and they had chicks from the day before and that hasn't been happening. Of course, the Nascar race is also in town this weekend so who knows.

Not everyone can have a rooster....zoning/ restrictions etc. That puts hatching out of the question.
So sell the males, give them away or kill them. Hatcheries don't magically hatch 90% females. They kill their excess male population

People that avoid killing by ordering females only export the killing to someone else

I've never ordered chicks nor eggs through the mail, but hatching eggs seem like the most humane option to me. That way there's no risk of baby animals dying horrendously in the mail

Same in our area as there were even African goslings in the South Boston, VA TSC. I don’t recall ever seeing them in any TSC before. And it was very hard not to get every single one because they were absolutely adorable.
