Hello All,

I need some help! Our hen has fowl pox and a throat infection to go with it. I took her to the vet this morning and he suggested we get her a multivitamin to support her recovery during this time. We are in Australia and can't buy one that is readily available in pet stores anywhere, so we are looking online. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions?

Thank you

Make sure your chickens are eating and drinking normally. Dry pox lasts about 3 weeks. Wet pox, the more serious type causes yellow spots or plaques inside the mouth and throat, so look inside the beak for any of those if a chicken is acting very sick. If your chicken has wet pox, try offering water often and wet chicken feed made very watery. Do not disturb the scabs on skin since they are contagious, and can spread the disease. Here is some reading about fowl pox:

Do you drink Herbal Tea?
Stinging Nettle, Spearmint, Chamomile, and especially Rose Hips are gentle and all high in various nutrients and can be useful in a pinch. (for B-vitamins cooked egg yolk would be helpful) Usually I brew the tea for 20-30 min then strain and either put a couple of teaspoons in the waterer or leave it in a bowl for free choice.
If Hen is still eating you could use the tea to make a mash I think.

Thank you for your help!. She has the dry version, is eating and drinking.. Her throat is just uncomfortable for her as we could see a legion in there this morning. We are putting iodine on the legions as instructed by the vet and just ordered a poultry multivitamin.

I will pick up some human B vitamin complex whilst we wait. That is great advice, I would of never of thought of that. Thank you so much!!!
