Okay thanks, it was just wishful thinking I guess. lolNope never had a female whistle.
Unfortunately three for sure and only 6 hens for sure. So far they are all getting along well enough with no blood shed but the females do get mated daily by all three drakes. The babies I am sure the biggest one is a male but not sure yet about the smaller two and am hoping for females. I will keep the babies until I know for sure and then unfortunately have to rehome the males. I was trying to rehome my Khaki Campbell male but he has a female of his breed that he is really close to and so far no takers for my $5.00 price. I just didn't want him to end up in freezer camp for someone but it may end up that way in the fall if things go south and I end up with three more drakes. I know that is the price we pay for buying unsexed and hatching some out, it's still heart breaking. How many drakes do you have?
Wow I get that. I was able to rehome my 11 Mallards last year, 9 drakes and 2 hens!!! Luckily I did not know the sex before I found them homes. That was quite a drive to rehome your 4. It was great that you were able to do that. I got my Muscovy ducklings unsexed and got a drake and hen and my Khaki Campbell ducklings from Rural King unsexed and a drake and hen, It could have been worse, I might have gotten all drakes so I was fortunate to get at least half and half. I love the eggs and give them to friends so I enjoy the females for that reason. The drakes are my Sweethearts though and I think they know they have to be such Sweeties to stay out of the pot, lol.I know exactly where your coming from that is why I am not hatching or buying. My youngest are 3 yrs now. But the last hatch I had here was 6 Runner ducklings and 5 were drakes. That did it for me. I also had to drive from NC to Virginia to rehome the 4 . A friend who lives there helped me find good homes for them.
My grown son who lives with us has a lot of health problems. The duck eggs gave him a bad belly ache. Yesterday as an experiment I made cookies and used one duck egg and one chicken egg. So far he has not gotten sick from that. Someone told us that some people get sick if the eggs are not cooked well done. I might have left his over easy as he likes his that way. I always cook mine pretty well done as I fry two up for breakfast every day. I bet your egg salad will be delicious!!!I love my drakes too, even when Opie is being at his worse he is still my boy.
Amazing you got one of each. I kept 4 Musvovy drakes for years all had to have their own special part of their property to keep them from fighting they each had their own females too. When my first drake died in 2016 I decided to try and rehome 2 of them and thank goodness that worked out perfect. So having 1 Muscovy drake and 1 Runner Drake has worked out great here. They pay no attention to each other.
Speaking of eggs I am off to make egg salad
Thank you for his well wishes. So far so good. He has always been able to eat chicken eggs. That is why the upset stomach with the duck eggs was surprising, I hope that your egg salad turned out well. It is so hot here that even with central air I hate to do any baking in the house.Alot of folks who have egg allergy to chicken eggs can eat duck eggs I hope the eggs in the cookies will not cause any trouble, I love baking with duck eggs.
