Mushroom foragers

Thats sad in a way. What's the big hang up with it when you do it?

It needs to be heated slowly. And it takes a long time.

If I ever do it again I will make a double boiler for it. Plus it tastes like💩.

If you know what sorghum syrup tastes like you know what birch syrup kind of tastes like.

Also it molds fast!

Just found this thread. So glad too.
I found this mushroom in the woods behind my compost pile.
Pretty sure it’s orange birch bolete. Any thoughts? Orange cap, cream color porous underside.
I use an app called Shroomify to get an idea of possibles in my region for season then cross reference with a book.

Flip it over so we can see the underside. It does not look like any bolete around here. (That I know of). Our boletes do not have that large crown like yours does. I

Sorry, I tossed it already. I face timed a friend who is also a toxicologist, told me it was indeed oak bolete. I still tossed it. next time I find one I’ll grab pics from diff angles.

Hey shroomers. I posted earlier about poss orange birch bolete (Aug 15). I tossed it despite a friend giving a 99%poss ID. I am finding various mushrooms on my land. I am not trusting my usual reference app as it’s too inconsistent with ID. I need help knowing what these are and if safe. I don’t eat anything I can’t 100%, positively ID… not worth it.
I’m in North central UP Mich, boreal and nearby wetlands.

first up, two specimens. several pic angles. found near native red and white pine, birch, and second growth poplar

left- brown top, pores, about 4cm, whitish stem
