(Temperary brood space.) When I first got my baby chicks from mail order I had them in 2 boxes that were connected to make the space big enough. The light you see is a 60w yellow bug light. (incandescent because LED throws no heat.) A heat lamp would be too hot, in this space. I am not a fan of plastic tubs filled with wood chips. With card board I can size up, raise and lower lamp if needed. Zip ties to secure.
I put a dish under the water to catch splashes, I use cloth place matts for tables second hand and toss when soiled.Shoe box lid for feed, then switch to deeper shoe box when older. When brooder box needs to be taller, I use zip ties in the corners. Chicks test the boundaries at about 2 weeks.
In this pick lamp is not on them for the pic. They will need a lamp that gets 5 degrees cooler , (raise the lamp) until 6-9 weeks, but after 2 weeks mine will get moved to a shed with electricity, and a big cabinet I found on the side of the road.
From there I have more space in an empty coop.
Spending time with them the first two weeks is good, you can keep an eye on them better.
I am just showing the set up, I am happy with, for the first couple weeks.
