I dont know what its called, but the red parts to a chickens face. Anyways, one of my chickens has a pale face. What does that mean..?

I agree with Speckledhen. This time of year is when chickens molt, so that would be my first consideration. I have one hen that always molts hard (generally loses every feather but a few flight feathers) and she gets very pale. The first time she went into a molt, I could have sworn she was ill! But, all was well once she got her feathers on.

If they aren't molting, then I agree with Speckledhen to look into other medical reason for the pale face.

Yes! You guys are mostly right. She was molting previously, but I think she's in the process where most of her feathers already grew back, so I don't know why her face's pale AFTER she's done molting.....

how are her droppings? color and consistency?
if they are watery or runny..show pink or tan..she could have cocci..
is there any foam? yellow or mustard color? mucusy?
has she been wormed? if so, when? and what was used?

maybe she just needs some extra protein and vitamins..
growing new feathers takes a lot out of them..

is she back laying yet?

My hen also has a pale face and comb. I wormed her on March 25, 2011 with Wazine and have been throwing the eggs away. She is having issues standing, she acts like she is drunk and sometimes she can not walk at all. She eats and drinks real well, even takes the pedialyte like a pro from the dropper. She is not molting at this time and there are no signs of injury. Also I do not se any signs of mites on her.

Hello all,

I have a rooster, ~6-7 mo. old who recently went through a bout of dry avian pox. His pox are now all gone and he is feeling better all around but he is very pale in the face/comb/wattles and I was wondering what I can do to help him if he is anemic or something. Thank you for any help.
