So right now where im at it is 10:22 PM and i heard cackling outside. I went with my dad with the .17 and shot the possumm so hes not a problem anymore. Anyway, the hen that was with him got shredded and he made it out barely alive. All of his tail feathers are gone, but the only thing wounded to bleeding is he has a small cut on his waddle, his comb is kinda beat up, and his eye is badly injured. His right eye is jabbed in and the pupil is red. He wont open it so unless i should do otherwise for now im just going to leave it alone. He cant walk by himself so I have him in a small crate in the house. He is wrapped with a towel to keep warm because he is wet and muddy. Also, I dabbed as much blood as i could off his face and nostrils so he could breath. Home made treatments are preferred. He is still breathing pretty normal.

I’m sorry he lost his hen. #1 is bring him in where it’s warm, which you already did. Great job. The blood only came from his comb? Normal breathing is good, too.

You will need to gently look him over for injuries so you know what your dealing with. As far as the eye, is his eyeball ruptured? I’m thinking it might be good to flush gently with sterile saline.

So sorry you had an attack on your hen. This is so odd to me. I’ve had opossums in my coop before and they have never bothered the hens. Raccoon on the other hand are vicious and will kill chickens

I already looked him over and he seems good other than his tail feathers being ripped out. His eye is possibly ruptured. Thanks for the advice! and yes the blood is only from the comb and maybe a little from his wattle. Not sure on the eye.

So maybe he can’t stand because he’s traumatized and not from injury. Apart from the eye, I’d probably just let him rest tonight an reassess in the morning.
Also when would be good to try to give him some food and/or water? He is just resting right now. Maybe tomorrow? Also, yes i think hes just in shock probably. Should I put an eye drop in now or in the morning since you said just let him rest.

You know what, I don’t want to guide you wrong on the eye. Let’s see if @Eggcessive is online. As far as water and feed, it might be nice to offer water, but don’t be too alarmed or worried if he isn’t interested tonight.

UPDATE: I put a drop in his eye about a half hour ago, cleaned up his comb, and i gave him some sugar water in a syringe until he can drink on his own, plus i need to get a waterer for him. He got quit the appetite and i picked up some food and sprinkled it in the bowl so he knows and he started eating A LOT! So he is doing good and i think he will be fine! Also, about how many days or weeks will the eye heal up? How long should I keep him in a crate inside the house and give him sugar water?
