I have a quick question. Every morning my chickens do like a ritual "cluck cluck cluck PAKAHHH " for about an hour. I don't have any roosters because I live in the city, but their clucks are becoming a nuisance. I specifically got all hens because i thought they were more quite. Does anybody know why they keep doing this and how i can possibly stop it!?

its the egg song ! mine do it too

Is there any way you can control the natural light in your coop?
If you can-with shades or wooded shutters- they will wake up later in the day and maybe it won't be as big a problem when they are noisy.

You may have to provide some artifical light at the other end of the day, though.

this summer i am building a proper chicken coop. right now its just the bottom of a jungle gym hahah and a dog run surrounds it. I will make sure to remember the keeping it dark so they wake up earlier thanks

Hi,

I can understand your frustration as I have the same problem. Since they started laying in December, my 4 RIR pullets have to let the world know they are producing eggs! I think it's kind of cute how they carry on, but I do worry that the neighbors won't agree with me.

I don't think there's much hope in quieting them down so all we can possibly do is let them out later in the day. Good luck! Genie

How long have they been doing it? Mine did it for a bit, (I was worried about the neighbors too) but stopped after a few weeks.
At first my husband joked they were "calling"me to come feed them, but since they suddenly stopped I couldn't say why they did it.

Anyway, they suddenly started... and suddenly stopped. And I am relieved, no complaints from the neighbors.

I understand your problem with the noise and living with neighbors close by. Personally I love the sound of hen's and roosters in the morning, they get me in the mood to get going and have a good one. We live in the country so neighbors are not a problem, your hens are vocal, singing the egg song, and cackling & Bawking at her girlfriends, they are just happy.
