My 6-8 week old chicks (one rooster, one hen, one undecided) are very scared of me and act like I’m trying to kill them when I’m simply checking the food how can I make them see me as a companion and not a predator? Ayam cemani chicks

Sometimes I've had chicks, like right now one, who hates me too because I have to clean its vent and make it take molasses water.

A handful of scrambled eggs soon warms them up to me. I'd try that sometime. If they won't eat out of your hand, just sprinkle some close by you so they come around. Each day you do this, they'll come closer and be less timid. It only takes a few days and they'll eat out of your hand.

I’ll definitely give it a go, thank you

Absolutely this! I also like to wet their regular food in a handful and "treat" them that way once they already know I'm a reliable source of goodies. They really seem to enjoy moist food more than dry and you can give them as much as they'll eat. I do this with my broody-raised who DEFINITELY don't like me much until mama has weaned them and they realize they won't get treats like everyone else unless they risk approaching me. My biggest problem is getting the babies solo because the big chickens follow me everywhere... Anyway, yes, food is the direct route to the chicken's heart lol.

Soon, they will not be quite as skiddish because they know you bring food. For a while, I was nervous my birds would always be flighty around me. Make sure you gently talk to them and around them. My birds never took treats directly from my hands as chicks, but now they seem to be almost a little aggressive with it at times. Also, if you can take them outside with a little pen and just sit next to them on the ground while they explore, they will definitely get used to you!
