After laying her third egg, (her first egg was on Thursday, second on Friday) the comb and wattles my Cochin hen, Papaya, faded from a bright red to a dull pink. What caused this, and can I do anything to help her? Thank you.

Does she seem to be feeling okay, or is she acting off or lethargic? Can you check her for mites on her skin? A picture might be good.

She is not lethargic and she does not have mites. Also, when she laid her egg, her comb and wattles suddenly became very pale, and while they have brightened, they have not completely returned to their previous color. I will go get a picture.

They seemed to have returned to normal now, but what caused it? They were about the color of a nonlaying pullet. She is a little light compared to my other Cochin.

It's normal for the color of the comb/wattles to pale once a pullet or hen lays an egg, then return back to a redder/normal color. It's just part of the laying cycle.
