My Duck Incubation Adventure - Vevor incubator

I’d appreciate feedback on these candling pictures. Thanks in advance!

It’s day 4 and I took a sneak peek and candled 6 eggs.
This looks very abnormal to me:

And this one looks great!!

I bought a Govee thermometer/hygrometer and it finally arrived. So far it looks like the temperature might be off by about 0.6 F (compared to the mercury oral thermometer) but I’m going to test it again later today. I did the salt calibration test on it overnight, and it is reading 74%, so that’s pretty good! It agrees with my incubator’s hygrometer, so I’m happy about that.

Day 10 update!

Of my original 48 eggs, I have 37 left. Most of the eggs that I removed were infertile, and a few looked a bit rotten, so probably poor egg quality.. All but one of the eggs that I removed were Indian Runners so I only have 12 left. I sure hope I get some to hatch!

I used a calibrated hygrometer and determined that my incubator’s humidity display is off by 1%. Surprisingly the temperature seems to be pretty accurate but I keep checking. So far I’m happy with this incubator

Hey. Any more updates on the outcome of the incubator and your eggs.

Hi,
29 eggs ended up surviving to lockdown. The Runner eggs really seemed to be poor quality. Only 8 of them survived to lockdown.

28 hatched! I was very happy with that. The only problem I had was the incubator went crazy on day 28 when I only had a few eggs left inside. It started randomly adjusting its settings and it was a very stressful couple hours. Eventually I was able to reset it and it was ok. I talked to the manufacturer who was somewhat helpful but all they could tell me to do was to reset it. If it ever happens again I will ask for a replacement.

I also used this incubator again with more duck eggs.
2nd batch: 43 eggs, 20 survived to lockdown, all 20 hatched. So I’ve had great hatching success but not so great early incubation. I think this time it was my fault for attempting a dry incubation in the early stages.

If you have any questions about this incubator, let me know!

I have been having trouble with mine getting enough humidity. I live in a very dry climate and I can’t get it up over 40% which I think is going to be a problem when we go to lockdown. How did you reset yours?

Do you have water in both compartments? I live in a humid climate and I never had the humidity go too low.

I do it just goes through a lot of water and no way to add to the other compartment. Didn’t realize it would use so mich
If you fill the first compartment to the point of overflow it will fill the 2nd compartment. How’d your hatch go? Or have they not hatched yet

I only got 3 out of 11 not my best hatch, right after the first three hatched the temp dropped for some reason and I couldn’t get it back up. Still not sure really what happened. I’m reloading it full tomorrow and will try to see how it works
