How do you get over yourself when your favorite chicken dies and you cant stop thinking that its your fault? I got 3 RIRs last october and ever since then one of them would always get picked on the most but she was my favorite. she would always come running up to me and i would hold her and she would fall asleep in my hands and i loved her so much. She just recently was getting through her moult and she has been acting weird but everything i read saisd it was because of the moult. Yesterday my dad called me after school and said that one of his friends stopped by and found one of my chickens lying on the ground really sick almost dead. ( i am having such a hard time writing this) I emidietly went there and she was in a box on the deck laying on her side and i just started crying so hard cuz i knew she would die. She was so miserable and i hated to see her like that. Sortly after i was there she opened her eyes and looked at me and it hurt so much, she looked liked she was in so much pain. She died and i had such a hard time saying bye.

Thats so sad, I have an Isa Brown just like that. Sooo friendly. One day she started flopping around all over the place like her head was cut off. She died within seconds in my arms

To surround yourself with life is to experience death. I have lost many dear friends.
The best thing you can do is remember them, because nothing truly is gone if it is not forgotten.
My signature line has a link to a post I made for remembering lost pets. Add yours, if you want.
And just know that no one here will look down on you for being sad, even if 'normal' people don't understand.

I lost my favorite a few weeks ago, I still miss her. It gets easier as time goes by. I am happy that I was able to give her a great life before she passed.

You shouldnt blame yourself, there was obviously nothing you could do. She must have known she was loved when she passed.

I know I cant replace my most loved, but I've started incubating to fill her spot. Hopefully I'll find another who will fall in love with me like she did.

So sorry, been there, it stinks! My birds got out of their pen and into the dog pen one afternoon. I came home to about a dozen that had been killed in the dog pen. I called my husband and was bawling so hard he couldn't understand a work I was saying. When he got home I was walking around with my EE hen (she was dead) cradled in my arms bawling my head off.

They are gone but NEVER forgotten. It will get easier

I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my favourite, Oprah, over a month ago. I still miss her. I wish I could see her pretty fluffy little face every day. It sucks. It sucks hard. It's always the favourites that go first. Seems to be the chicken keepers rule of thumb.

Thanks all of you, I hope it does get easier. I have some pics of her that i am going to print out and save.
