My First McMurray Hatcheries order!

Your chicks are beautiful. If I may, your chicks are cool! Huddling is not good. The first few days a chick need 100 degrees on it back. Also get them off news paper and on pine saw dust or better shavings.
Good luck with your birds

There is a difference between "huddling" and sleeping in a pile. If the chicks are collecting in a group during the day rather than moving around, chances are they're too warm or too cold. If this huddling is far from the heat lamp, too warm; under it they're too cold. Normally they should be spread out doing whatever it is that little chicks do and only coming into the warm area if they feel chilled. Again, if you've ever watched chicks with a biddie, that's what they do.

The night time pile is another thing entirely. They seem to like getting together to sleep, something they will continue to do even after they've feathered out.

I'm still concerned about the dead guy in front of the post office.

I hope someone called 911 and I hope the fellow doing CPR had someone to relieve him.

If you think the poop is something now...wait a week. Those cute fuzzy things grow fast, and so does how much they poop.

Today my friend Dave came over and selected six of the chicks for his back yard.
We bagged them up and he whisked them away.

Here is the video of the selection process.

Thats what we did also. We ordered 15(got 18) but only wanted to keep 7. One roo, and 6 hens. Now, I wish we kept just a couple more. We lost one of the hens in the heat. So now we only have 5. We have been getting 4-5 eggs a day, but need just a little more. You might want to keep just 1-2 more hens than you think you will need. You can sell later if you send up with too many eggs etc.

That is something to consider for sure thank you for the input!
