Writer...that quilting machine is amazing. There is a monitor on the wall that you can see at what point the machine is in the quilting pattern. It has a computer program and discs on which are the different quilting patterns. It is called a long-arm quilting machine. I know that purists don't believe that machine piecing and machine quilting are as legitimate as hand quilting but I never could have quilted that over-sized quilt. I heard someone at the last quilt show say that a machine pieced or machine quilted quilt was not a quilt but it was a comforter. Whatever you call it I am happy with what I did.....There is a lot to be said for carrying on traditional ways of creating things, and I do believe in continuing to learn the old ways......but........if my grandmother had had electricity and a sewing machine, I betcha she would have machine quilted.

Halo....Yes it was my very first quilt. The very first blocks I swapped here was a nine patch block. I tried harder and harder blocks until I had the confidence to try to put them together. Ask Nanakat.

She and others helped me so much and have so much more knowledge than I. I learned so much from the swaps and I got the Quilt In A Day book with this pattern explained and all the yardage figured out for me, except I added blocks to make it bigger. I just took it one step at a time and was naive enough to not realize what a big undertaking this large a quilt really was. Ignorance was bliss.

On a more serious note, saying a prayer for you and your husband, Kathryn.

I am one of those "traditional" quilters that Leepsy is talking about..well..I would never critisize (sp) anyones choice in construction..I personally prefer to hand piece and quilt..my form of stress relieve!! But I must say....Beverlys' QUILT is beautiful pieced and quilted!!! You, Beverly should be very proud of it!!..don't let anyone tell you different!!

Thanks, Sandy, you're special.

I have seen your work and if I could hand-piece as nicely as you I just might try to do it. Sewing is like that for me. It is a stress reliever.

Thanks again, y'all, for the compliments. I am so happy with it.

I keep going back to look at your gorgeous quilt. Amazing for a first time out, just amazing. I hand pieced and hand quilted for 30 years before the staff of BYC gifted me with a sweet Brother sewing machine. Now, I piece everything with that handy dandy gadget, but I still hand quilt everything, working through tingly and numb fingers all the way. It would take me ages to hand quilt a king size, though. Good call, letting someone machine quilt it for you. Should give you years of enjoyment and warmth. The colors are fabulous.
