Hello from Pahrump NV. Newbie to this world. I received 2 baby chicks from my son’s girl who did the trader joe incubator u-tube trick. Then she did it again. I ended up with 4 baby chicks born like a month apart. They have a homemade coop which they go to at night and a 6x10 ft run that holds it as well. They are happy as far as I can tell and growing like crazy. The older 2 Billie and Bobbi should start laying by August and Chickie and Chickadee will follow. I have sand (chix special sand) in the coop and it is raised a foot off ground. The run is type 2 gravel that is older and they enjoy it as far as I can see. So, so far so good. They get ice in their water 2x a day and they have shade under their coop. I give them scratch about once a wk and i have grit mixed in with the type 2. Is there anything else I should be doing?

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

They are sure pretty birds!

When you run out of feed, I'd switch to an All-Flock, which is usually around 20% protein, lower in calcium, and suitable for all aged chicks and chickens. Then you'd never worry about nutrition for whatever age either. When they start laying, you need the oyster shell in a separate dish, but away from the chicks.

We're glad you're here!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
You don't actually have to order Flock Raiser specifically. You can use any starter/grower that offers 18 to 20% protein. Whatever you have in your area should work fine. Put out one or two containers of oyster shell and always make sure you keep an eye on them and keep them topped up. That way you will be prepared for any and all possible combinations of ages and genders in your flock. Good luck and have fun!
