We built this feeder after we tried many other options. It is based on Rob's design. It holds exactly a bag of feed.

Here it is--

The only thing we are going to change is on the trough, the chickens flick a lot of fodd out so tonight we are going to put a thin board across the trough so it will eliminate this problem! Hope you enjoy!! It was pretty easy to build. The entire constuction of this was took about 2 nights. The board is 3/4 thick.

Also you can see the piece along the bottom in the third pic of the board we put in at an angle. It helps pour the feed out better!

I really like your feeder design! And thanks for the step-by-step photos showing how it's constructed... even I might be able to build one! Best of all, I think I have enough scrap wood left over from doing two coops and a run.

Great feeder. Is it screwed to the wall, or is it free standing? (Could it be free standing with that angled board to push the feed to the trough?) Also, approximately how big did you make it (L x W x H)? Exact measurements aren't necessary, but approximate size would help me out. Finally, how are you going to put the thin board on the trough to stop them from flicking food around everywhere? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm thinking I might just have to build one of these. Thanks!

Just curious do you need a feeder that holds a whole sack of feed? 50 or even 25 pounds is a lot of feed to have sitting there for weeks on end.

Its not necessary to have a feeder that will hold that much, but it does make it so you wont need another bin to hold the remainder of the feed.
