My Peahen laid 1 egg

My 5 yr old India Blue Pied Peahen laid 1 egg during the night last Tues night and has not laid another egg since. What is wrong? Any help is appreciated.

Maybe she’s slowing down? (BTW, this is just a guess, I haven’t ever owned peafowl.)

Last Tuesday as in yesterday? Every two to three days is normal except around the beginning of the season then they can be spotty for a while.

as a related follow up, my peahen laid one egg and never came back for it. any thoughts @KsKingBee? it sat for like a week and she didnt lay another one with it so we put it under a chicken. hoping its fertile.

do broody peahen act like broody chickens? my chickens run over to the food all urgent and fuss at everyone around them and eat like they've never seen food before and run back off to the nest. my peahens are just being chill but I hadn't seen one for a couple days so I thought maybe she was on a nest... shes just casually walking around now.

peahens lay many eggs before they actually start to sit. It's called egg dumping and in the wild they do it in other peas' nests to ensure that some of their offspring are hatched. In captivity it means that they just lay a bunch of eggs all over the place before they even think about sitting.

That is probably a decoy egg, like Josh said they lay lots of eggs and they scatter them out in hopes to assemble a group of eggs that are fairly safe, (since they didn't disappear). They will also collect eggs from around the pen to make a clutch.
