my pet chicken reviews

I am very upset with My Pet Chicken. I ordered 2 geese goslings, and they were sent in a box with this stringy bedding (supposably safe). My brooder is large and has bedding that is shavings so when I put them in the brooder, I just sat the box in the brooder on its side. 1 week later- one of my geese ate the bedding that was sent with the geese, and it died. When I went to remove the goose from the brooder the string was all the way down the gooses throat, and I couldn't even pull it. The string was attached to the bedding the geese were shipped. When i called to get a refund or a replacement (my 3 year old was in tears so im trying to fix the situation). They just said how sorry they were and they dont do anything unless it's before 48 hours. I also asked since one did can i just order one more instead of the 2 minimum and they said no. So I'd say order from different people because they are not helpful.
 
You can decline the roo packing peanuts! I never get that. Have ordered many times from ideal. I like their order desk folks. Dry responsive, good selections etc. my pet chicken is too far away from me.
I know this is an old thread, but I just ordered from ideal and am wondering how to do this. We have a small backyard flock and don’t have the space for roosters.

First timer here and placed small order - realized I forgot to add one breed and called to modify order. No one picks up the phone (need to leave message) but they do call you back same day. Their policy is no modifications of orders. Was told I needed to cancel existing order ($20 fee) and re-order. Re-ordering loses your reserved dates and you will need to start all over and new order would have been 3 months past my original date for chickens. It's annoying because the add to my order had same delivery availability dates of May...

Cannot fault a company for their policies, I'm sure they have good reasons. It just didn't work for me. Placed order with local farm and it was a lot cheaper for the same breeds of chickens (Buff Orpington,Barred Plymouth Rock, Olive Egger & Blue Ameraucana).

Canceling order for $20 was well worth it as I saved a lot of money on chickens and supplies elsewhere.

I'm always calling them to change my order. They will add more birds at no charge, but if you remove some they may charge a 10 dollar fee. I find their customer service wonderful. Always accommodating.
 
I did not have the same experience. I chose them based on all the good feedback I heard. Maybe I got someone on a bad day? Maybe it was due to me being a first time customer and small order? Bc she was very clear that changes were absolutely not allowed. I was trying to add 1 chicken w same availability date as existing order placed on Saturday and called back on Monday. I did not think it would be a problem. I was wrong.

I also found them unhelpful. But My Pet Chicken gets raves so maybe we were the handful of negative experiences vs the majority of good.

Did you call on the hatch date of your order? They won't change orders on that day as things are already being processed. All changes must be made by the Thursday before your hatch date. I've had nothing but great experiences using them since 2008. Can't say how others have done. Some things have changed in the past year. You used to not be able to cancel an order 3 weeks before the ship date. Now it's the Thursday before.
