New chicken daddy here. 8 chicks all 5-6 weeks old. Been starting to spend nights in coop as i’m in Florida and its been warm enough (brooder plate for reassurance). Anyway I found mystery blood on a roosting bar this morning that wasn’t there yesterday. There was also some on the floor but the bar was the worst. I have checked all 8 chicks including their vents and I don’t see anything suspicious or bloody. All are acting normal also. Should I be worried? Does this just happen? Should I treat with something? They have been on medicated food until the last week or so.

Thats a lot of blood, doesnt look normal to me.
@Eggcessive and @Wyorp Rock will be able to help, hopefully.
Good luck!
Thank you. I thought it seemed like a lot too. I expected to see something on someone. I did have some blood two days ago on one of the girls wings but I think that was from them being bored from being cooped up and needing space. This looked like stool. Not surface wound blood which I have not seen them bothering her since they have been going in the run.

I would treat for Coccidiosis using Corid (amprolium). That looks more like a dropping to me rather than wound blood. Coccidiosis is most common in chicks, and it can be deadly. So I would start treating them immediately.
Is anyone acting off or sick?
No behavioral changes.

Okay, that's a good sign. Chicks don't always act sick at first with Coccidiosis.

Also, if you didn't know, medicated feed is medicated with a tiny bit of amprolium to help prevent Coccidiosis. So seems like it may not have prevented it. Living in Florida may also make it worse because of your climate.

Any brand or type to look for? Does it go in their water?

For treatment you can get Corid, they sell it at Tractor Supply so if you have one near you they should have it.

Here's the dose:

And yes, it goes in water.
Thanks for your help. Got some ordered, should be here tomorrow. Always something new it seems, even when you do all the right things.
