I am officially nuts. I was at TSC this morning and they had Mystic Marans chicks. I had been searching for Black Copper Marans all spring to no avail, so when I saw they had these little pullets I couldn’t pass them up. I will be adding them to my flock of 12 week old pullets when they’re old enough.

Tips and tricks for integration when they’re old enough would be most appreciated!

Also, does anyone else have any experience with this breed?

I have one who is just shy of 18 weeks now. She was a really sweet chick and a pretty girl but she's getting a little mean right now. Almost roostery. She doesn't have the roo coloring otherwise I'd be waiting for a crow and shipping her off somewhere else but I'm having to scold her quite often for picking on the other girls and she definitely is not interested in being held. I hold her more than she'd like if for nothing else than to remind her I am the boss. Hoping she outgrows this soon. But her coloring is pretty! She isn't solid black, there's a lot of shimmery metallic greenish when the light hits her.

I'm certainly not disagreeing with you, as experiences differ, but my "production marans" are my sweetest hens. One of them (Suzette), wants my attention more than she wants treats. While the other birds are squabbling over who gets the treats, she's looking up at me, crouching, etc.

They've also earned their "production" name - being among my best layers, with the largest eggs of my small flock.

I'll be looking to add another in the spring.

lol I went to tractor supply today and low and behold they had mystic marans, 4 of them came home with me. I have 1 copper maran hen that lays wonderful dark eggs.when I integrate them I usually have a pen that I keep them in inside the coop so they can see the others but it keeps them safe, for a time. after about 2-3 weeks I let them out to mingle with the others.usually they integrate them with no problem.
