Hi everyone,

I need an honest opinion on this picture I took of Venus.

When I zoom in really close, I’m seeing something really weird.

Is it just me, or did I capture cloud detail? I honestly can’t tell.

Can someone help me figure this out?
Venus has pretty high-contrast cloud formations so I'd say it's clouds. The atmospheric distortion gets in the way a bit, but looks cloudy to me.

To my untrained eye it looks like you may have picked up some cloud detail. But more so from the color change near the middle right and top. I don't think the dark horizontal bands/lines are part of the clouds.

The best way to tell is to compare it to other images of venus. I use astrobin to search other astrophotographers images. If you click on an image it will show you the gear they used to capture it. I like to filter my searches by the equipment used so I can get an idea of what it's capable of.

Looks like there's another chance to see the northern lights this weekend. It's apparently the largest solar flare emitted since 2017, stronger than the one last May. Of course I'll be working nightshift with tons clouds and light pollution... :(

I reprocessed my captures of Saturn and Jupiter, I forgot I had a program that drastically helps me process them on my laptop. I used the program, and believe it or not, it made my pictures a lot better.

I mean, look at this! You can make out cloud detail!

Rings are clearly visible in front of the planet here.

I can’t believe I forgot about this program that helped me out in the past!

I used the following equipment and programs:

Nexstar 8SE telescope
Orion Starshoot usb eyepiece II
Autostakkert 3
Registax

That looks fake! Great shots!

I’m sorry, I have to ask, are you being serious about it looking fake?

I’m having a hard time understanding what you’re saying. It’s an artifact of my ADHD.

I appreciate the compliment that they are great shots, though!
I was saying that they are great shots, the planets look fake. So good that someone drew them or something. I know you took the shots and this is not a cut on you
