Nearly 3 weeks old chick sleep a lot

Oh, I'm so sorry I feel the same way when I lose a chicken. Just remember it could have been a lot worse for her and you gave her an amazing home.đź’›
Yeah, everyone said the same thing that no one would take a chicken let alone baby chick to vet in Australia. They said it's not worth it but whenever it saw her thriving to eat and will to live I just have to do what I can. Now with 3 hens left (for now) I checked all diseases and meds that I can get on my own to have available at home. I just can't bear to see them suffer and unable to do anything.

It's really bad that I can't forget the baby chick and wrong to do by get 2 silkie eggs to incubate on my own. It's like toxic emotional. But I just did and so far 2 eggs developing really well. Of course, they're not replacement for loss one but just can't bear to loss that baby chick. Just say this as in general that it's not the solution at all so don't be like me do this.

I understand, A lot of people also just don't understand how special chickens are to people. But the backyard community will support you! I think that what matters is you put your all into helping your chick, And that's what it will remember.

The same things happen to me, my chickens are special to me. If you feel like crying, cry. Let it out even if it feels toxic. When my favorite chicken died (My wonderful Speckled suxxes Lotus) I was hysterical, never feel like it's not worth being sad about because your emotions are so important!

Best of luck with your eggs, General question, where or how did you get the chick? Out of curiosity.

Why are you giving away your hens?

I got from shop that selling chicken and duckling. They sell varieties of chicken breed including meat chick. I got her as meat chick for my uncle's wife but turn out she's not. So I didn't give to her. Then again, she would died faster since my uncle's wife plan for special occasion. So she wouldn't care much if she died. Baby chick got mixed up into meat chick. Her looks and weight definitely not meat chick. I saw reviews about this shop saying that someone bought egg laying chickens around 8 to 10 but almost all of them died from respiratory disease. I didn't think it would happen to me again since it was 5yrs ago reviews. But seem like the seller didn't do anything or change anything. Baby egg laying chickens cost around AU$40 each if hybrid it'll cost half price of that so yeah... tough on that buyer.

Yeahhh, she's really attracted to us. When we took her to emergency and in oxygen chamber. She was panicking so much and when she saw my mum she tried to get out of the chamber to be with mum.

Aw, That's so sweet. I've noticed people who care for just one chick turn really friendly. I'm going to try this with my chicks in March. Were getting like 4 I hope that's good. It must have been scary for her. Chickens imprint on the first thing that they see when they hatch. The same goes for the caretakers. She could recognize you guys very well.

Yes, she scared at that time she only recognised just me, my mum and my stepdad. Whenever I go to work always my mum or my stepdad with her. We practically doting her so much. My mum always hold her whenever she sat relaxing on the couch.

If just one chick will imprint on us. I had a single duckling before around 2004 from my yr 12 biology class to do experiments imprinting. At that time we can choose either duckling or chicken we all choose duckling. I got lucky to pick that duckling as a girl and she's not just normal breed either. She had baby feathers on her head like pompoms when she's fully adult. But once she's fully grown we put her outside and she recognises our pet dog as her mate. So she think she's a dog. My mum also started giving her dog dried food soked in water to her as she still little with freshly salad. She refused to eat duck food even we put out for her for 2 days. Whenever we took her to swim in the creek near our house with dog. He think she's gonna drown so he kept calling her and she did come back. So yep, these are my experience of having single duckling. She's really friendly but when she grow up still friendly but act like a dog because later on we put her outside with the dog.
