I don't have plants near my run, but I do have a fence and I planted Morning Glories all around. They do a nice job of clinging to the fence and looking pretty.

It looks likeI am in zone 6b.
I decided against planting a blackberry because I don't want to have to pull out all the offspring.
I have a big catnip plant in my yard and I took and branch of that to plant in the chicken run (I'm letting it get bigger first).
The reason I decided to just plant their chicken feed is because I have seen it spout before, but the chickens eat it before it gets big. I had volunteer sunflowers grow in my compost last year and those were great! They grew because of my chicken feed getting in the compost. We will see how it goes. Not the end of the world if it doesn't work.
Thanks for all the great tips!
There used to be a curmudgeonly gardening writer for the Washington Post, Henry something. He wrote that English ivy attracted mice, but that wasn't bad - what was bad is that the mice attracted cats. lolAgreed, our name for English ivy was "rat habitat". Never plant it.
I have seen that video. It was amazing! So inspiring....I was very inspired by a video I saw on you tube, she called hers Chicken City. Probably could search it just by that. Although, the variety of plants would differ, but she had great ideas for pots by putting bricks on top of the soil, so weeds could grow, but the chickens couldn't get at the roots. But not so much that they would be crazy overgrown. Similar with bushes, she surrounded them with chicken wire or hardware cloth at the bottom. She then had other fenced off "rooms" that was her main garden. She would then just rotate out when she needed the chickens to clean up. I'll see if I can find the link or her channel.

I planted some mint outside the run, it keeps mice away. Please don't plant mint or any other invasive plant.
