So quick background.. I am a single mom. I have been in school and worked part time for the last two semesters while my son is in daycare. I would much rather spend my summer with him(he is a year old) than have to get a "real" job. I have 26 laying hens and a large garden. Yesterday was the first market, i sold out of eggs and asparagus, the only two things i brought since it is early in the season. I put out a sheet asking what people would like to see and bread was listed multiple times. I love cooking but would love some of your favorite recipies or what you would like to see at a farmers market. THANK YOU. YOu have all been so awsome in every other area.

Personally, I like the 12 grain bread, and I LOVE the little chunks of grain in it. I also like Italian herb and cheese bread (for making subs). Italian bread is good too. Now, if you could make a whole wheat Italian bread, I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

Hi Rubyrogue. I don't know all that much about chickens yet, but I can share what I know about farmers' markets. I've been selling at several for about 10 years and you're right; people love bread! And they love cookies, too. One thing I know about local markets is that if you chose one or two things and do them really, really, well, you will have repeat customers who will stand in line for your special bread/cookie, whatever.

Quick breads are easier and faster than yeast breads and can be either sweet or savory. Quick breads are also a good way to use up overgrown or plentiful vegetables like zucchini and carrots and even tomatoes. You can make a savory herb bread. Herbs are easy to grow and taste good in bread. I think it's wonderful that you want to spend the summer baking bread and being with your son. The best of luck to you.

Aunt Bea has some great advice for you. If you want to try your hand at a really good yeast bread that doesn't take a lot of work give this a try.

I purchased the book but it really is not necessary. Everything you need to know is in this article in Mother Earth News .com
