I have 1.5mg/ml meloxicam. I have a 3ish lb hen. I need to know how much to give her in ML. I’m so very confused and horrible at math.

Don't know if this will help, as I use the 7.5 mg Meloxicam pills. My vet recommends 1/4 tab once a day for a hen in need, without close attention to weight (though my girls are larger breeds, 5-6 pounds). 1/4 times 7.5 mg equals 1.875 mg. If each ml of your meloxicam contains 1.5 mg, you would give 1.25 mls to equal 1.875 mg. Again, this is a standard dose my poultry vet recommended without factoring in weight.

Can someone backstop me here?

P.S. Don't know what condition you're treating, but when I had a girl with cancer, dexamethasone worked wonders in controlling pain, restoring mobility and appetite when meloxicam was no longer effective.

I’m treating a fly strike on a rescue I just picked up. I’ve gotten all the maggots out, cleaned and dressed the wound. Have her on antibiotics. But I know it must hurt. And I have melox from my vet for both my dog and my cat. And I thought that may help her.

I hope it does; my understanding is that meloxicam can help with inflammation-related pain, not sure it's effective with pain of other origins. You are kind to be helping rescue her!

I hope this helps someone else on the Internet looking for dosage info. I have a hen who was acting like she wanted to lay but would spend hours in the nest box with nothing to show for it in addition to being off. Lethargic and not interested in treats. Took to the vet had had a close to 400.00 vet bill. I was already giving crushed calcium citrate syringes into her mouth with water. That shows up on the X-ray in her crop in addition to a weird shaped mass close to the opening of her vent. Doctor felt for it trying to remove but couldn't get. Was sent home with a prescription for meloxidyl 1.5 mg/ml in a 32 ml bottle given as 1.2 ml twice a day (morning /evening) for pain and inflammation. She was also given liquid Trimeth Sulfa (48 mg/ml) given 1.1 ml twice a day ( morning/evening) for 7 days. Doctor said supplemental calcium wasn't needed but I have her 1 tablet a day until she laid a hard shell egg. The day after the vet visit she laid 2 rubber egg remenments and her demeanor improved. She was so better after one day in the house I put her back out with the others. Continued antibiotic for all 7 days. This has been a month ago and she has been fine since. But I have to be careful with not feeding her any food other than layer feed as she seems prone to calcium deficiency issues.

Glad for your happy ending! I don't know how old your gal is, but hopefully, the problem won't recur. I've just seen a 4-year-old recover from a laying hiccup and don't know -- or really care -- if she comes into lay again, as long as she isn't sick.

She is a 2 year old buff laced Polish and had no laying problems prior to this. Just had a 4 year old Rhode Island red pass away while we were on vacation due to egg yolk peridiontis and autopsy said necrosis of her lady bits due to e.coli infection. I thought maybe it was the feed and switched. Not really sure if that was just due to her age. My 4 year old Rhode Island reds only layed one a week and one has stopped completely.

One of my 4-year-olds, a speckled Sussex, never came into lay this year, the youngest I've ever had one stop completely. Meanwhile, my 10-year-old buff Orpington is still occasionally delivering! She's amazing.
