These's are my 2 babies HappyFeet and Star Duster we don't know a lot about them like their sex and age we do know that they are Mallard Drakes we got them from Tractor Supplies and that's all we were told about our babies. Nothing on shots or vitamins and minerals and anything else they are supposed to be getting or need to be on to keep them alive. Yes,me and my husband Daniel are first time duck owners and we have lots of babies here with us we got cats to keep snakes out and Dogs to guard the house and to protect us and one service dog for me. We thought it would be very interesting to have ducks in our little odd family we have. And because our special needs daughter has always wanted ducks, can't Waite till she comes back home to us. But, if you can tell what age or sex they are please I would love to hear it and I would answer all questions as best as I can.
Thank You,
Valerie and Daniel

If you could get a better photo in normal light of each that would be good. The yellow is not a mallard. And the darker one is probably a rouen.
And drake- means male... which its too early to tell. But not suprising tractor supply employees told you that. They seem to give alot of wrong information and never know what breeds they have.
The yellow is probably a fawn and white runner or possibly a buff duck. But a good picture of its face will help us tell that.
And a better pic of the darker one too. It could be a mallard but looking at its size next to the yellow im thinking rouen is more likely.
The pics will help tell age better too. But look like 1-2 weeks to me

Sorry also... some info on feed just in case they gave you wrong info on that too.
They need - either all flock or flock raiser crumble
And ducklings need niacin. So i add 1 tablespoon of brewers yeast or nutritional yeast per cup of feed
If you feed any treats or anything besides crumble they will need chick grit available.
They dont need any shots .
Some of us add organic apple cider vinegar to their water a couple times a week.
They also need water deep enough to dunk their whole head in.. to clean their eyes and nose out.
And they need kept warm at this age. In the picture it doesnt look like they have a heat lamp.. so in case they dont , make sure they have a warm spot in one corner. Put a thermometer there. And that age my ducklings liked it around 75-78 .
The opposite side of the brooder needs to be at least 10-15 degreess colder so they can cool down if needed.
Let us know if you have any other questions regarding care!

So yesterday I let my ducklings swim again and they were so friendly and ate right out of my hand! They LOVE PEAS. But as soon as they went back in the brooder they wouldn't come near me:/ why is that?

I have a pic of them when they were smaller but, the stupid thing won't let me put it on here for you to see . But I can tell you the yellow on was not bright yellow he or she was was a Smokey yellow with gray or brown on it's feathers. We live in Texas its very hot in South Texas and i have no central A/C so its pertty warm in there little house i made them. I wish I could show you the baby pics I have but, it just won't load up. Thanks for all the advice guys we are having so much fun with them.
