Hello all. I have my coop built and mostly finished. I need to get a run finished asap! The run is 10’x20’ and made from an old carport structure. I have some hardware cloth but not enough to cover the entirety of it. I have a 10’x20’ shade sail for the top and two 30”x10’ galvanized roof panels I can either put on the sides or the top. The coop faces north south. So daily sun exposure is a concern and ensuring I can provide shade to keep them cool when it’s 110 out. We unfortunately don’t have any mature trees near the run. I also need to figure out how to frame in a door. The coop has 18 laying boxes. I’m going to keep to 3 gallon waterers hanging in the coop and 3 gallons of feed. And another waterer in the run. We have 19 birds they are about 5 weeks old currently and living solely in the coop right now. I also need to get solar set up to run a fan in the coop when it’s hot out. And get my rain water barrel ready to collect the monsoon rains.

18 nest boxes?

Your setup is alot like ours was until the carport run caught wind and was destroyed...we have severe winds. We couldn't use sun shade as we have significant snow. Anyway, here are some pictures of what we had.

Yes, we have 3 rows of 6 nesting boxes. Thank you for the pictures. We can get some severe winds with the monsoon rains. I’m debating reinforcing the structure with wood posts in the ground as well. I also sunk the post 10” into the ground and put some concrete in. The tubing isn’t thick or designed for a ton of force so I’m hoping the wood posts in the ground will help tie it all together and help carry the load. We will see. Only time will tell unfortunately.
