Hi! So I'm pretty new to this and have very little experience with building things. I started my coop about a month ago. I looked at different coop plans, bought materials, and went from there. I'm posting a picture of where I'm at with it now, I know I obviously need a door & to add chicken wire around the top half. The roof is corrugated metal panels. Im just stuck with how to finish it from there. Any advice on how to finish it, structurally, as well as what I'm missing, how to predator proof it, make it prettier/more homey for my girls etc. would be greatly appreciated! If this was in your backyard what would the rest of your construction phase be?
I have 13 chickens currently. They are free range on about 1/2 acre gated area on my land. They come in the coop when it starts getting dark. They are temporarily on dirt flooring in the coop but I'm thinking of getting hay to try the deep litter method. There are milk crates in there but I'm looking for a cheap alternative to those for nest boxes. My girls are still pullets (they don't sleep in the crates), but when they do start laying I want to have a good place to nest.
If you see anything wrong or missing in the pictures please let me know.. I want the best for them.
This is how it is right now. We've had a lot of rain lately so I covered the back area with boards & metal panels to make sure they can stay dry. Those aren't secured into place just laying on/in front of the frame.
This is 1 of the spots they sleep/roost.
I removed the temporary boards to show the frame in the back up close. The milk crates are sitting on a long board that is laid across the bottom of the frame.
This photo was taken a few weeks ago but if I were to take everything out of the coop that isn't secured to it (besides roof) this is basically where it's at.
