I dont have much carpentry or construction experience. I have 10 barnyard chicks and 4 silkies i would like to keep separate. I have been looking at many different coop ideas on this page but building 1 coop separated into 2 is quite intimidating for me with the lack of experience i have . I am pretty much looking for a coop that i can house both in without having them be able to interact with each other. Any of you guys have any good ideas or plans that you can share. Also if anyone is in the upstate/catskill region who might be interested in some work, might be willing to hire someone with some experience :) thanks in advance

If you don't want to build yourself, you can hire a shed builder, and have them build you a shed...

@Ted Brown has a great suggestion, ask the builder to build a Woods style coop. There are plans for Woods coops on the internet, and somewhere here on BYC, under large coops, is a Woods coop that they split into 3 sections I think...

Also, you could buy a shed, then add huge hardware cloth covered windows for ventilation, perches, etc....

Attached is a copy of the Prince Woods book, see page 37 Chapter III for plans for the KD (Knock Down) coop. I built one of 10' by 16', currently building a second of 8' by 12' (will house 24 birds easily). I strongly recommend you build or get it built per the diagrams (cheaper and easier than using stud walls). If you are at all handy you can do it yourself. I am happy to give advice on the build as you think about it or as it progresses.

Also recommend reading the book even if you just skim some parts. Very informative particularly about fresh air coops but basics across a lot of poultry topics.

Good luck!

The Woods coop that is split in three is also in the book (Chapter VI). Essentially it is a three 10' by 16' coops side by side without walls intervening, just use Hardware Cloth. There is also a design that attaches a "back half" (no front section) to be used as a feed+ storage shed along side.

The design is brilliant, very flexible!
