Hello to everyone here in the BYC community. I'm so glad google brought me here. My wife and I have recently purchased 6 chicks. They are now 4 weeks and 4 days old. We got them from a place called Charley's Chicks. I chose them as they have 2 policies that as a first time chick owner, I really appreciated. First is that if within 5 days, a chick should pass away, they will get you a "replacement", there is no real replacement for a lost baby. Second one is that they have a 90% guarantee of the sex of the chicken, if at 8-12 weeks you discover that a pullet is actually a cockerel, then you pay $5 and get a pullet that is the same age as the cockerel you return. Which is a great deal, in my eyes. Unfortunately, our Sapphire did die. Charley upheld his word, and we got another Sapphire in her place.

Of the 6 chicks we bought, we have 5 different breeds. We have 1 Americauna, 1 Silkie, 1 (what we think is a Bantam Cochin), 2 Starlight Green Eggers, and 1 Sapphire Olive Egger. We would have only had 4 different breeds, but the day I originally went to get the chicks, there was a young girl working and she said the Bantam Cochin was a Silkie, which is what we wanted. However, we quickly learned from research and when we went back to get a second Silkie to give the first a friend, that she was not. We didn't want an exchange as we had already named her AND fell in love with her.

Sorry this was so long, but this is my background on chicken owning. LOL

I've never heard of Charley's Chicks, but those are two nice policies. Sorry you lost one of your chicks; even if you've only had them for days, it's hard to see a tiny little life ended.

Your flock is a good mix of breeds and should produce some lovely eggs in a few months.

Welcome to BYC; hope to hear more from you as your little ones grow!
