(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I had chickens when I was a kid growing up, but now that my kids are a little bigger (1 and 3) I convinced my husband to let us get chickens of our own!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
7 chicks, 2 weeks old
(3) What breeds do you have?
Sapphire Olive Egger, Saphire Gem, Rustic Rock, Buff Orpington, Speckled Sussex
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
The community, theres so much help out there because everyone is doing it
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Gardening, running, spending time outside with my family
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have two wild little girls (human) and a dog and a cat, and refer to our family as the circus, although now that we have chickens my sister said we're more of a farm. I grew up on a farm, and work in agriculture, but am trying to educate my girls about farming on our little 0.6 ac lot, so chickens were the perfect fit.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
BYC has all the best answers to googled questions about chickens. I've been reading threads for about a year, and now that we have chickens of our own, decided to join the flock.
