After 7 years of talking about it, I finally had the time during the quarantine to take on a new project so we got chickens!!! We got 3 chicks from Rural King, a Cream Legbar, a Buff Orpington and a Dominicker. We've had them 1 week in a diy brooder in the garage. So far they all seem active and healthy, except for one who got pasty butt. Got it off where it matters but stressed her out so I plan to try to get the smaller chunks that are left today. Just bought a small first time coop by Innovation Pets (the Homestead coop) which I'm hoping to get built this weekend then we will evaluate whether to add a larger run.

We live in Huntsville, AL so they are city chickens. We have a sizeable garden (for the city) and compost pile in our large backyard. we also have 3 dogs, 2 senior pitbulls and a 5 month old Rottie pup who is super full of energy. I'm very interested to learn more about how People have introduced their dogs to their flocks to get them used to one another and prevent the dogs from eating them as chicken snacks.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
I have three high energy dogs and none of them are allowed anywhere near the flock. I keep the flock contained within an electrified poultry net powered with 10,000 volts. My rat terrier took one hit to the schnoz when he was thinking about going after the chickens and that was it for him. He doesn't even look at them and stays away from their area.

Welcome from Georgia, the Poultry capital of the world (2018).. Glad you have joined this chicken crazy board.

Here is a quick link to the articles area, lots of info on this forum, just look around. Also if you have a specific question the search engine (top right) is actually very good..
