I just got 4 new chickies 3 days ago. So excited! 2 little black Sussex I think, an Easter Egger, and an Orpine. So far so good. I learned the first day that the heat was too strong, so I moved them to a larger enclosure and moved the light up higher and they perked up immediately. I wish the feed store would have mentioned that overheating them could be bad. I think that was a close call. I thought they were huddled in the corner because they were cold, but it turned out they were trying to escape the brutal heat. I have the lamp higher and concentrated on one corner and a heat stone under the pine shavings so they can hang out in the heat or take a break from it. In only 3 days, they've become quite a lively bunch. The 2 little blonde ones are clumsy and need some manners. Lol. The little black ones politely play and sleep with much more grace. Maybe the other 2 will learn some good habits from them. Fingers crossed! Just getting started.... Looking forward to this new adventure!
