I live in Arizona, and want to get 2 new chicks for show this year. Is march a good month to do that? I already have 2 chickens. I’m planning on keeping the chicks outside in a large box until they can go in the coop with the other 2. Is it a good idea to keep them in a separate coop though?

My main point was the month, it gets really hot here and I had 4 chickens die due to heat. I’d march a good month to get show chickens? Will they make it through the summer?

It all depends on the temperature in March where you live, if it’s not too cold they will be fine with a heat lamp or pad. The best way to add them to your flock is gradually letting them all out together leaving a place for them to hide or run if they need it, with my experience they were all perfectly fine together but every flock is different. I wish you luck!

Edit: if you are worried about heat the best things are adding apple cider vinegar to their water (it’s like Gatorade for chickens) and making sure there is shade in the coop. Hope this helps!
